Schramm (1993) ★★★½ (contains spoilers)

This review may contain spoilers.

A German art house movie that puts the viewer into the mind of a sadistic serial killer. This was a surreal fever dream of a movie that I almost describe as the last fleeting cognitive images in a serial killer’s mind during the last throes of death…memories and nightmares merge to flood his mind before everything fades to black. This seemed like the premise this film tries to capture and, if so, it does it well.

You also get the body horror flashes of a free-floating monstrous toothy vagina thing and Schramm nailing his foreskin to a table. Just some bonus scenes, I guess!

What added to all this strange imagery is the soundtrack…the monotonous drone of music repeating that fit so well with what the viewer is witnessing.

This movie is definitely an experience like no other.

Rating: ★★★½ (out of 5)
