Review
Rec, a Spanish found footage film, is a fast-paced and well presented experience in terror and chaos condensed in an isolated apartment complex. As for found footage horror movies, this is one of the better examples. It’s full of creepy and quick scares. So if you’re looking to get your heartrate up, this is a movie that will jump start that.
I was unfortunately subjected to the English dubbed version which is not my favorite viewing experience. I’ll take close captions any day. But the dubbed version of Rec contains voice overs that are borderline comical and extremely distracting. So one star for the audio dubbing. But I won’t really factor that into the final rating. Just a word of caution for those, like myself, who aren’t fans of movie versions dubbed in other languages.
At 78 minutes long, Rec does exactly what it sets out to do. Traumatize viewers through the experience of found footage filmmaking. A job well done! But if anyone knows where I can view the uncut Spanish language version, I’d like to experience this movie in its true cut and form.
Rating: ★★★½ (out of 5)
