Review

Caveat is a brooding, decadent nightmare with a menacing atmosphere of dread. A lone drifter suffering from partial memory loss accepts a job to look after a psychologically troubled woman in an abandoned house on an isolated island. What can be creepy about this setup?

A lot. And the actors and director execute this well throughout. The setting of the run-down house really amplifies the unease—from torn wallpaper to nightmarish paintings to the main prop: the creepy drumming rabbit that you almost feel a kinship with, as if it’s some form of twisted guardian angel lurking in the whole decrepit hellscape.

This film’s vision paints an atmosphere of isolation and decay. The only caveat I have for a full-on recommendation is if you dislike quiet creepy horror that drags you through an intense nerve-jangling ride till the bitter end.

Ranking: ★★★★ (out of 5)
