Sting (2024) ★★★

Sting

Overview

Your biggest fear just got bigger.

After raising an unnervingly talented spider in secret, 12-year-old Charlotte must face the truth about her pet and fight for her family’s survival.

Review

The second spider horror movie to be released in 2024. Sting is quite different than Infested which I’ve reviewed below:

While Infested is a much more horrific film, Sting blends better characters and some comedy into the mix. Overall, I gave it a slightly lesser rating than Infested, mostly due to its lack of any real scares. It seemed rather run-of-the-mill throughout. A good enough movie to watch once, get a small dose of entertainment, and never think about again. Even the creepy spider events failed to really stir up much dread or squeamish reaction which was surprising. Sting serves more as a fun creature feature, even a little pulpy. It does have its moments of gore and body horror, but really lacked the intensity, action and cringe-worthy creeps that Infected stirred up quite nicely.

But for those who are looking for light horror with some solid acting and characters you can attach to, this may be the better option of the two covered here. Diehard horror fans will liken this to a watered down R-rated showing that could have as easily been a PG-13 affair.

Rating: ★★★ (out of 5)
