Review
This one debuted in my top-10 list for horror films of 2023. The premise of this movie is much like a silent film, as there is next to no dialogue throughout the entire movie. The isolation—and non-communication— of its main character feeds the unease throughout and commands this film to be action-packed from beginning to end which I enjoyed.
This is a film which showcases the creatures and it’s effectively done to engage horror fans. The lead is played by Kaitlyn Dever and she nails it. Putting this in the hands of a lesser actor would have been the death knell for this film, but we care for her and feel empathy for her situation which promotes an even better viewing experience.
The only thing that didn’t sit well with me is the ending. All of a sudden the movie slams on its breaks and goes off into some really weird David Lynch territory and the transition and sudden departure from the constant intense run-for-your-life plot just doesn’t work.
Rating: ★★★½ (out of 5)
