Overview
Bad things happen for a reason.
A group of people are trapped in an elevator high above Philadelphia, and one of them is the devil.
Review
Devil is a taut, entertaining horror thriller that largely takes places in an elevator amongst five strangers. Well, four strangers and one devil as the devil is not estranged to any one of them. This was a story developed and produced by M. Night Shyamalan and directed by John Erick Dowdle (The Poughkeepsie Tapes and As Above, So Below). This film really flew under the radar upon its release. Devil is simple and effectively shot around the basis of the lore that the devil roams the earth and hunts in human form to bring sinners to hell.
I love the effective minimalism, the narrative which describes the cautionary devil’s tale, and the many twists that bring the story full circle. This movie is definitely one I showcase in my personal library and watch repeatedly.
