Review
Landing solidly at the #2 position of best horror movies of 2023 is When Evil Lurks. Directed by Demián Rugna (Terrified), this film breaks new ground on bleak horror. It’s a fusion of themes—zombie-possession-religious horror—all taking place in a small countryside town where evil begins to fester.
This movie is pitch black when it comes to mood. There are scenes which are sick, violent and just plain horrifying—this is why I keep watching horror…to find films like this that go to new heights to bring the emotion of fear into our theaters/living rooms.
Demián Rugna is now at the top of my list when it comes to up-and-coming directors. His vision for this film and Terrified really set the benchmark in what moves the genre.
When Evil Lurks will move you and a few of its scenes will stick with you…forever.
