Overview
Close your eyes. We dare you.
Deep in the Mojave desert, under a scorching blood-red sun, four travelers have set up camp to make art. One fateful night, the group is thrust into a feverish tornado of flayed flesh and mind-boggling monstrosities, the likes of which mere humans simply cannot fathom.
Review
Another low-budget found footage production. This one’s been compared to Skinamarink (which I absolutely did not like). I felt The Outwaters was more enjoyable and easier to watch than the aforementioned movie. There’s some really effective cinematography that captures the beauty and stealthy menace of the desert. However, when the horror starts, it gets dark and shaky and really hard to make out. Which is essentially the big cover-up most found footage movies present in lieu of small budgets.
Another drawback was the footage was a little disjointed to make out some key setup plot points, like the real reason they were shooting in the desert. Yes, for a music video, but camping there for days seems a little extreme. And ultimately a little risky.
