Review

Many perspectives of H. P. Lovecraft’s fiction would agree that much of it seems humorless. Which really allows for such an interpretation as Re-Animator. Lovecraft’s fiction is often so serious that spoofs on his work are bound to be prevalent. Though I wouldn’t consider Re-Animator of spoof film, it is a rather fun and funny (at times) movie in the Lovecraft universe.

What begins as a really weird horror film develops nicely into the more extreme affair. This is a no-doubter when it comes to a cult-classic flick. Almost 40 years after its release, Re-Animator remains foundationally solid and just a fun movie all around. You have the blood, boobs and gore that are a staple of ’80s horror cinema, but the weird science fiction slant really sets this apart for its originality and timeless quality.

A must-watch, must-own movie for any horror fan’s personal collection.
