This one just missed by year’s best list, but I really liked how the film explored cultural divides and losing one’s identity. I’ve been seeking out more films lately that deal with other cultures and beliefs…I think this brings about even a bigger horror-feel to the moviegoing experience because it is foreign to me and something outside my experience or perspective. But the one thing I note is how similar evil is symbolized from one culture to the next. They may have different demons/entities, but the fears and superstitions of many beliefs and cultures are tied together and universal.
