Overview
The only way out is down.
When a team of explorers ventures into the uncharted maze of bones that lies beneath the streets of Paris, they embark on a journey into madness and terror.
Review
Another found footage film from John Erick Dowdle which was a follow up to his classic extreme entry The Poughkeepsie Tapes. As Above, So Below refines Dowdle’s craft in the subgenre. There are some impressive scares. The claustrophobia is on another level as the unique footage of the Paris catacombs takes up a substantial amount of the runtime.
Although this was a step up to the found footage quality, I still prefer The Poughkeepsie Tapes. This film had too many elements of mystery-adventure (similar to The Da Vinci Code) which made this film less impactful from a horror point of view. But if you’re into that sort of thing and love horror, this may be a personal classic.
Note to characters: Scarlett…please take a tranquilizer! George…best to remain in that Turkish prison.
