Review
This movie is so unbelievable in the fact that someone would risk their life for a slice of New York pizza. Deep dish Chicago-style pizza, for sure, but not for a pizza made in NY. Another thing I had a hard time believing is that cat could go all that time without purring too loudly, hissing or just plain meowing. But I did root for it, even though I’m a dog person. I’ll usually root for anything over humans. Sam could have had a tarantula or albino iguana as her service pet and I would have still been pleased if, in the end, all humans died and the hairy or slimy creature remained.
A Quiet Place: Day One isn’t going to rate extremely high on most hardcore horror fans’ top films list. Mostly because it’s more drama and thriller. But the movie is well done when it comes to caring about the characters and especially the cat. This elevates the suspense, but the horror elements (the creatures) really seemed to be a backdrop in this film. If the director / script writers would have combined more horror elements with strong characterization, it would have been a much higher rated film, in my opinion.
But still, a solid film and nice addition to the A Quiet Place series.
