Overview
Children can be such monsters.
A group of criminals kidnaps a teenage ballet dancer, the daughter of a notorious gang leader, in order to obtain a ransom of $50 million, but over time, they discover that she is not just an ordinary girl. After the kidnappers begin to diminish, one by one, they discover, to their increasing horror, that they are locked inside with an unusual girl.
Review
New horror movie releases in 2024 have been lackluster so far. My most anticipated movie list has seen its fair share of disappointments (most notably Stopmotion and Late Night with the Devil) getting average to sub-average ratings. Abigail is another on that list I had high hopes for and it’s the first that didn’t disappoint.
Abigail sets the definition for a fun horror movie. A truly great cast, spooky setting, over-the-top gore and some extremely creepy moments never let this movie get dull. The tiny ballerina vampire may be a funny combination, but I didn’t feel this movie was comedic in any regard. There were some humorous moments, but nothing that would serve this as being classified as a comedy. But fun…it most definitely is. Thanks to some quirky characters. Also, the weird scenario these characters are restrained to. And really going one step further to magnify the gory details, particularly with the vampire deaths.
Abigail brought back hope that 2024 horror movie releases can rally in the second half to salvage what is, to date, a very disappointing year.
