Review
Another major box office horror movie released in 2024 and another run-of-the-mill PG-13 offering. The hype on The Watchers is it’s the debut of Ishana Night Shyamalan (M. Night’s daughter). And for the record, this would be a solid first film for most directors. But Ishana isn’t most directors, is she? Either is getting your first film produced by M. Night Shyamalan. So for what went into the production, the end results is something which seems very lackluster.
Turns out that The Watchers is more fantasy-oriented than horror-thriller-mystery. Also, this film reminded me a lot of another much anticipated but disappointing 2024 film Lovely, Dark, and Deep, also starring Georgina Campbell. The trapped in the haunted woods theme, though The Watchers did have a more interesting creature angle. I’m not sure about the book, but the story in the movie just wasn’t all that interesting or engaging. It was not cheaply shot or poorly acted; I just felt the plot and the twists were subpar.
