Review

Watching this was one of those hail marys where you hope to be surprised. Possibly find one of those hidden gems. All three actors in this film are good and turned in fine performances. However, the plot was rather redundant to other films. Not as cool or convincing as Psycho. Creepy hotel, check. But there is where the similarities end.

There was one twist that seemed to be well-played, only to be beaten down by the film’s end. Too many horror tropes building to jump scares that have been done many times before. Escaped convict on the loose. Possibly haunted motel. Weird visitors. Stalker. Strange phone calls from abandoned cabins in the motel. Sound familiar?

If one of these tropes found some new ground, it might have elevated the film. But what you’re left with when you rent Night Shift and check in to the All Tucked Inn is just a boring, semi-comfortable stay in another less than average horror movie. But at least, as one of the guests would comment, “it’s cheap!”
